About the Proprietor

Christian Patrick Moore was born to musical family of the South. His grandfather played guitar, mandolin, banjo, and washboard in bluegrass bands around the Southwest Virginia/East Tennessee Blue Ridge Mountain region. His mother annoyed his cartoon watching by giving daily piano lessons to the neighborhood children. She also sang and played classical guitar. His older brother introduced him to Kiss, Rush, Prince, Michael Jackson, The Cure, R.E.M. and many others through the floorboards of the house by jamming records on his turntable. He could also belt a serious tune and was the lead or star in a several musicals throughout high school and college.

Patrick didn't get serious about playing music until his 17th birthday when he bought a bass guitar from a friend who got a $150 speeding ticket (he was going really fast; 80 in a 35 if he remembers correctly) and sold the bass guitar and Gorilla amp to pay the ticket. He joined a cover band barely one month later (it was a very small town). A year after that he was faking the whole first side of Moving Pictures by Rush, which, even just faking it, was no small feat for a beginner. Beef Stew, as the band was known, went on to play four hours of covers from David Bowie to Danzig to Dire Straits. They played at many parties, a few clubs and sold zero records.

In college at Berea, Kentucky, in 1991, original music took priority. He played in several bands starting with Head Loom, continuing with Silas, and culminating with Uncle Sid's Medicine Show, playing with, in his opinion, some of the best drummers in the world, Dickie Chapin, Chet Surgener and Jeff Duncan (o.k. so Jeff happened to be singing in the band he was in with him. Still doesn't change the fact).

In 1996 he moved to Chicago where he hooked up first with Steve Jarvis in Caramel. Caramel was regularly featured at Thax Douglas' After Dark series at Lounge Ax and played many shows around Chicago. They attempted to record their own demo, but knowing zilch about mic placement, failed to come out with a positive result. It was this event that started him thinking about sound recording from the technical side. Later he met Don Bodin, who is now a successful film composer in Los Angeles, and joined File Underwater. File Underwater was by far the most successful venture, releasing two records, getting played on Chicago's Q101 radio station and touring the Midwest region surrounding Chicago. There was some talk of opening for Soul Coughing, but that never came to fruition. File Underwater received many positive reviews and accolades, including making #27 on Amazon.com's list of emerging artists to watch.

While in File Underwater, Patrick was inspired to return to college at Columbia College-Chicago after seeing his picture in the Columbia newspaper playing at Lounge Ax. He had no idea his picture was in this paper when he picked it up on the Red Line one day, and hardly recognized himself when he saw it. Columbia was calling him, he thought, because he took to many hallucinagens during his Grateful Dead phase. Anyhoo, he went on graduate in 2000 with a degree in Sound for Picture and Recording while making the Deans list.

After graduation he took a turn away from bands, compiling a large catalogue of original music and working with internet and film sound. Patrick worked closely with Megaphonic proprietor Pier Mattioli to create a rich soundscape for the online game Brand Wars, including 25 mock "trademark" brand themes (jingles if you will), 12 strategy campaign themes, the main theme and the sound effects. During this time he also did the music for the Killer Stunts website and the music and sound editing for 'Dot Redemption' short film. Then he had a baby...

Patrick went on to play acoustic guitar in a bluegrass trio called the Lap Dogs with Laurie Miller of Pistol Whipped/Hootenanners Live Band Karaoke fame, and Adria Young. He finally returned to bass guitar duties with Lower Class Odyssey (LCO) with Erick Sherman on drums and DNick the Microphone Misfit and Bob Rok on lead vocals. LCO attempted a takeover of Pilsen and the entire world but alas, fell short.

This history shows an artist friendly demeanor, a true love of music and an extensive experience in the Chicago musical community which, in turn, translates to a comfortable working partner. Hopefully you will feel at home at Guardian Ear.
